Hungary: concert of VindPower at the Budapest Jazz Club Opus
Budapest Music Center
Budapest, Mátyás Street 8, 1093, Hungary
In cooperation with the Estonian Institute in Hungary and the Budapest Music Center, the most prominent representatives of Estonian jazz music will perform twice a year at the Budapest Jazz Club Opus.
This time, the Hungarian audience will get acquainted with VindPower, a band that started making music again after a couple of years of silence.
The creator and leader of the ensemble, as the name suggests, is the outstanding clarinet player, composer and arranger Meelis Vind, who is an acknowledged performer in Estonia both on classical, contemporary and jazz music stages. In 2014, his work was honored with the Danske jazz prize. Meelis Vind is a familiar name to the Hungarian audience – in March last year, he performed at the Opus Jazz Club as part of the Heliotroop ensemble.
VindPower is an ensemble with intense energy and they are always ready to experiment. Their repertoire consists primarily of the members’ own creations, but the songs of the notorious guitarist Ants Laig are also presented. Their music has been influenced by European classics, the 1970s Anglo-Saxon progressive music, and fusion that evolved at the same time. The band’s soundscape is multicolored. VindPower’s music helps to get away from the everyday routine and invites the listener to a long and exciting journey.
Members of VindPower:
Meelis Vind – clarinet
Jaan Jaanson – guitar
Raun Juurikas – keyboards
Mihkel Mälgand – bass
Ahto Abner – drums
The event’s partner is Budapest Music Center.
The Estonian Institute would like to thank the Cultural Endowment of Estonia for the support.
