On March 24, 2017, at 10–14 a day dedicated to literary translation takes place in Helsinki’s Estonian House.
Programme:
10–12 Translator as a literary agent. What is the role of the translator on the tough market of literature? What is literary translation like from the perspective of the publisher? Can a translator offer a book to the publisher and what should their statement include? Satu Harlahti, the editor-in-chief of the literary translation department of the publishing house WSOY, will talk about the everyday life of the field and answer questions.
12–14 from Estonia to Turku 2018. Translators and the institutions of Helsinki’s Estonian House present Estonian literature that could be translated into Finnish to publishers. The discussion also covers translating scholarships and already ongoing book projects.
